2021 - A year in review - Being outdoors as much as possible
For those interested, here is a list of my gear that I have found works well for me. This is, of course, an affiliate link and your enjoyment of these may vary:
A great start
2021 began as most of our years do; in the outdoors. It’s a family tradition that we spend New Year’s Day on a family hike and this year was no different. We headed out to Ramona to enjoy the Ramona Grasslands Preserve.
Peakbagging
I was able to visit several peaks this year, some new, some old. Was able to check some off of the 100 Peaks Challenge, specifically, Grapevine Mountain, Coyote Mountain, and Granite Mountain.
Local Backpacking Trips
I’ve been able to make some time to get out to the local mountains and deserts. I tested some gear and enjoyed some quiet moments of solitude
Five National Parks
I was able to make it to five National Parks this year including our fantastic backpacking trip along the Teton Crest Trail.
To the Sierra Nevada
Including Sequoia and Yosemite above, I made it to the Sierra Nevada six times this year. I was there solo, with family and with Sophia. It’s one of my favorite places on Earth.
A Mount Whitney Milestone
Sophia and I were able to successfully summit Mount Whitney on a 5-night backpacking trip. It was an amazing trip all around and we are fired up for what’s next.
Getting Outside
I was able to get on the local trails, stroll around downtown San Diego, and enjoy time at the coast, alone, and with friends and family.
Overall, it was a great year when it came to getting outside. I spent almost a month total in various tents and was able to hike hundreds of miles in a variety of locales. I am very fortunate.
Here’s hoping that 2022 is safe and adventurous.
