For those of you who were wondering how my feet were doing, since I mentioned how painful they were in my trips to San Gorgonio and the Muir Taco trip to the Sierra, they are doing a little better. Not a lot, but there has been improvement. I went to the foot doctor and was diagnosed with Morton's Neuroma, defined as:
"...a painful condition that affects the ball of your foot, most commonly the area between your third and fourth toes. Morton's neuroma may feel as if you are standing on a pebble in your shoe or on a fold in your sock.
Morton's neuroma involves a thickening of the tissue around one of the nerves leading to your toes. This can cause a sharp, burning pain in the ball of your foot. Your toes also may sting, burn or feel numb." -Mayo Clinic
I've purchased new hiking shoes, bought new everyday shoes, modified my Superfeet inserts, and had a cortisone shot in my foot.
The bright side is that I no longer am awakened at night by foot pain. The not-so-bright side is that I still feel regular pain, especially when walking on uneven surfaces, like a rock in the trail or along a hillside. I will continue to seek treatment to improve this, because "this aggression will not stand, man."
But nothing is keeping me from the trails.
