Mount Israel Hike (Elfin Forest, Escondido) – Peak #4

Mount Israel Hike (Elfin Forest, Escondido) – Peak #4

Mount Israel is a scenic hike accessed from the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve in Escondido, following established trails through rolling hills and open backcountry. The route leads to a quiet summit overlooking Olivenhain Reservoir, with expansive views over inland North County and the surrounding terrain. It served as Peak #4 in my San Diego 100 Peaks Challenge.

Another late start and another trail baking. Escondido Creek was a pleasant surprise, as well as how many people were on the trail on a Monday. I passed a group of what I thought were female firefighter trainees, but then realized they were inmates.

A great hike with plenty of benches near the trail with shade.

Update 2017:

I was able to get back up with Sophia on Jan 07, 2017. Still a great steep hike, very popular, but thins out when you get to the top. One of two hikes where someone recognized me. They also recognized Sophia. It was a fun moment.
