October 5, 2003: Sometimes you find a restaurant that just hits the spot.
When we were recently in Bristol, UK, we came upon a great Indian/Nepalese place called Kathmandu. It turns out they just opened a month before.
Being as we were Americans, we showed up right when they opened at 6PM (whereas most of the Brits show up at 8 or so). We were seated in a nice lounge area and were able to munch on some great spicy chips, which made us very thirsty. We then ate at a nice secluded table. We had dishes such as Bhuna Gosht, Rogan Josh, Vegetable Supreme (my favorite) and Nan Bread. We were in a hurry to see an opera down the street, so we reluctantly had to eat quickly. Everything was so delicious, we decided to go back later in the week and had an equally delicious meal (I was able to order the Vegetable Supreme again). This time, we had no plans afterwards so we were able to enjoy every bite and visit with the staff. If you are ever in the Bristol area in England, I highly recommend this place.
Update Sep 17, 2018: They closed their doors after 37 years so the owners could have a happy retirement.
