Idyllwild, CA 2009 - Hiking to Suicide Rock and fun times in the cabin
This year, the PD (formerly known as the PM) turned 40. To celebrate, we all decided to go back up to the cabin for a fun time of hiking, eating, drinking, and poker. (Some of us didn't get around to the mountain biking). A great time was had by all, but we paid for it the next day.
When we arrived, we all went on a hike to the top of Suicide Rock, which is a ~1,300 foot climb in about a mile and a half. As it is not maintained and there was a lot of snow on the trail, we actually lost the trail a few times.
Consumed with summit fever, I led the group on, which consisted of The Teacher, McD, the Fisherman, and McRonald. Almost to the point of turning around, we met a friendly hiker who told us that we were near the top and were on the right track.
We carried on and made the summit of Suicide Rock, to be blown around by the high winds. Ready for warmth and food, we headed back down and only lost the trail a few more times.
When the the PD, the Rock Star, and the Professor came up, the poker really began and turned into a drinking game. Within no time at all, we were having a great time. I lost big time.
The next morning, the Fisherman and McD cooked breakfast for us all and later we cruised the town and ate at the Red Kettle, which also hit the spot. The Teacher, the PD, and the Rock Star all stayed another night, but the Professor and I had a nice drive home through the countryside.
